Principles of Success
Hi, my name is Katelynn! I'm a student at Brigham Young University - Idaho. I am writing this blog as a type of entrepreneur journal. Currently, I am enrolled in a class called, "Small Business Creation." Part of the requirements of this course include recording weekly entries of our entrepreneur journal on a blog that we have created. I am excited to record the progress and lessons that I have learned throughout this semester.
Thus far, we have only just touched the surface of what it means and requires to create a small business. Obviously, before one can create a business, they need to have an idea of what that business will consist of. As you may have guessed, this week has consisted of a lot of brainstorming. In all honesty, I'm studying Construction Management and my business ideas can be a little dry.
The biggest challenge is changing my mindset towards this class. In this class, I am constantly being put out of my comfort zone - and I love it! That may sound twisted, but I mean it. I think that one principle of success is admitting that one falls short. But to take it one step further, once you have recognized your shortcomings, you must be willing to overcome those shortcomings by taking leaps outside of your comfort zone.
As I am trying to take my own advice, I have tried to come up with more unique business ideas. It's been a bit of a power struggle, but I feel very pleased with the results. Now, this course has an assignment that requires us to create a small business that accumulates $100 of profit by the end of the semester. Once we have finished this semester, all of the money will go to a fund of our choice. So far my top 5 ideas include (1) Clean-Check Cleaning Business, (2) Pickup and deliver groceries to those who don't want to do it their self, (3) Nanny Business, (4) Lemonade Stand, and (5) Take out trash.
This won't be the easiest thing I've done, but I am ready for the challenge!
