Failure Leads to Success
“Tolerating
unavoidable process failures in complex systems and intelligent failures at the
frontiers of knowledge won’t promote mediocrity. Indeed, tolerance is essential
for any organization that wishes to extract the knowledge such failures
provide. But failure is still inherently emotionally charged; getting an
organization to accept it takes leadership.”
To many, failure is the end of the road. To fail means that
you are incapable of success, but in reality, failure is the door that leads to
success. In a company, the fear is to reward failure for fear that people will
get the idea that the company is rewarding bad behavior. The key to failure
becoming success is recognizing when mistakes become counterproductive and
intentional. If a mistake is made due to a lack of experience or understanding,
a leader should recognize that failure as a learning opportunity. They should
not punish an individual for not knowing, because chances are that individuals
limited knowledge came from the training and experiences that your business has
given them. Let that sink in…
So, how do you create a company that learns from their
mistakes, and uses those failures to gain success?
- · Build a learning culture
- · Learn how to detect failure
- · Analyze failures that have occurred – with an open mind!
- · Promote experimentation and try something new
In one of the motivational videos that were posted to the
readings and videos for this week, there was a quoted that basically states
that living life means that there will be risks involved. But that’s all part
of success!
$100 Challenge Update:
It’s complete! I was able to reach my goal of making $100
dollars after only 4 babysitting services were completed. It was a great
experience to “own” my own small business. I hope that as I go into the career
world, I’ll be able to take the lessons I learned during this process and apply
it to future experiences that I have.
